Business Link

“At one time or another, many have used our readymade business information solutions, such as the Directors’ Briefing and Start-up Briefing series,” notes Rory MccGwire, BHP managing director. “We view that as testimony to the quality and appeal of our work.

“For numerous other Business Links, we’ve created bespoke solutions, such as monthly e-newsletters packed with advice and local and national news relevant to small firms. In fact, we were one of the pioneers of this method of communicating with this market.

“And as well as publications that have been distributed by Business Links nationwide – such as the No Nonsense Guide to Government Rules and Regulations and the No Nonsense Guide to Starting a Business – we’ve produced customised, region-specific printed guides for some Business Links.”

Providing a link to SMEs

Business Link Kent is just one example. “They needed a printed guide that could be the cornerstone start-up publication for Business Link in Kent,” says Rory.

The result — researched, written and designed by BHP — is an easy-to-read guide, complemented by insightful local case studies of real small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the county.

“Each owner explains how they started their business and they share the key lessons they learned during that journey,” Rory continues. “Such first-hand experiences can be invaluable to others who are starting off in business.”

Measurable results

As well as arming new businesses with the information they require, BHP’s solutions enable Business Links and many other business support organisations to achieve their SME objectives and targets.

“I can think of one that achieved a 68 per cent response following a telemarketing campaign they carried out using Directors’ Briefings as the tool to facilitate replies,” Rory recalls, “but there are many examples.

“Numerous Business Links use our weekly Small Business Newsfeed to drive traffic to their websites. One Business Link captures 42 per cent of its website traffic this way. We’ve also provided Business Links with bespoke and ready-made content for their websites and e-newsletters – it’s a highly cost-effective solution,” he concludes.
